Netflix animes in Japan with English Subtitles

Netflix Japan is bundled with a larger variety of classic and new anime, but lack the subtitles commonly found on Netflix’s library abroad. I will attempt to document over time which ones have subtitles. Anime status subject to changes. I welcome and appreciate any help I get! Thank you for the help!

  1. Thanks! Useful list.
Also, most of Makoto Shinkai’s anime movies on there have English subs. Voices of a Distant Star, Children Who Chase Lost Voices, Garden of Words, 5 Centimeters Per Second.

  2. Thanks so much for taking to he time to do this!!! I’ve been in Japan a year and miss being able to watch anime on netflix. I haven’t found a way to search for which anime’s do and don’t have subtitles or are dubbed. I hope you keep updating this list!

  3. Saiki K. Season one has English subs (maybe even dubs, not sure)
Children of the Whales is available in several languages
    Godzilla Planet of the monsters
    Cyborg 009
    Kuromukuro
    Voltron
    Fate/Apocrypha
    Magi: Labyrinth of Magic
    Magi: The Kingdom of magic

In case you still update the list. Thanks for making it either way.

  4. Thank you, it’s my second day in Japan and I couldn’t find any anime with English subs. I thought it was non-existant here lol

  5. Hello!

I just wanted to warn you guys, that watching the first few seconds of an anime to check might not be enough if characters haven’t spoken yet : I decided to watch Saiki’s third season, and when I checked for subtitles it said none, and only japanese audio. I though “wathever it’ll make me study I love this anime too much” and…though not written in the ‘audio & subtitles’ section, they ARE english subtitles. How come? No idea! But basically when yiu are checking, do actually wait for characters to speak to be sure. It’s kind of a pain, but you might have a nice surprise like I did.

And thank you to the author and everyone who participitaded in making that list. Not being able to watch anime in Japan is a bitter type of irony. Of course, I should have studied my Japanese more, etc ^^’…

    • Thank you! Yes, unfortunately later seasons aren’t guaranteed to have subtitles and as anime come and go the status of their subtitles do as well. Thank you for your input and help. I hope we can all enjoy anime without VPNs in the future.
